How Do You Do A Surface Tension Boat Science Experiment?
Surface tension can be difficult to explain to a child. If you can give them a visual, such as in this experiment, you will be teaching them a concept they will always remember. This interesting science experiment can double as a magic trick. With cardstock or any other heavy gauge paper you can make a boat that will sail across the water without effort. A tiny bit of liquid detergent will send it zooming! Be sure to allow children to do as many steps of this experiment on their own as they can. It’s great to build their confidence and love of science. Make sure your basin or sink is very clean before you begin. Any residue will affect the outcome of your experiment. Fill the basin or sink half way full of water. Make a flat, one dimensional row boat shape on your card stock/paper. About 6″ long and 4″ wide should do it. Make a little square notch into the “flat” side of the row boat, where the engine might go. Remember to make it pointed at one narrow end and flat and squared off at t
