• Get in the pool and make sure you have goggles on. • Start swimming the freestyle (i.e., crawl stroke) for the length of the pool. When you are fairly close to the wall, do a front flip, and then quickly push off the wall with your feet while simultaneously twisting your body so your face resumes facing the bottom of the pool. “Fairly close” is relative depending on how tall you are and the distance from your feet to your hips…as well as how fast you are swimming. For an adult swimming at a fairly good pace, the flip will typically begin about 3 feet (give or take) from the wall. • As you do the flip, have your legs rotate over from the hips and minimize bending at the knees.
