How Do You Divide Up Family Heirlooms?
• Pray for all involved to have mercy and peace for event. • Divide up the heirlooms into lots of four to five items. • Place on the table, if possible, the amount of lots to fit the number of siblings each lot equal in value. If there are 3 siblings, then place 3 lots of heirlooms. • Write a number on a piece of paper for each sibling. If there are three siblings, then write on three pieces of paper “1” on one paper, then “2” on the next paper, and “3” on the last one. • Fold them and place in a bowl or hat. • Each sibling should draw to see who goes first. • The sibling who draws number “1” goes first picking one of the lots. • Sibling “2” goes next picking between the two lots left. • The last sibling with “3” takes what is left. • If anyone wants to swap and the siblings swapping are in agreement then they may, but if not they do not have to. • Rules are strict: No getting mad or feelings hurt if sibling doesn’t want to swap. • Once the items are divided out, it is final.
