How Do You Divide A Banana Plant?
If baby plants have sprouted around your banana plant, you can separate them and end up with 3 or 4 plants. They make great gifts or keep them to start your own tropical jungle. Here are the steps to divide your plants. First make sure the baby plants are large enough to grow on their own. Each should have at least three leaves out. If they don’t, there won’t be enough root development to grow on their own without the parent plant. Assemble your supplies. Protect the area where you’re potting with a drop cloth if you can’t be outside. Remove the original plants from their pot. Insert the trowel around the edges to loosen it. Turn it on its side and tap the bottom and sides. Pull it out gently by the trunk. Remove the baby plants (suckers or pups) from the parent. Use a sharp trowel or large knife to cut the two apart. Loosen the dirt around each plant. Try getting the sucker plant out without losing too many of its roots. Dust the roots and base of the new plant with a rooting powder l
