How Do You Disinfect Football Knee Pads?
Several forms of bacteria live on football pads because of their use and storage. The most common form of bacteria found on football pads is Staphylococcus aureus (staph), with a new, more deadly strain, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) now being found on football pads. These bacteria are transmitted by drainage from skin wounds. Fluids can contaminate football equipment and be shared by players, causing the spread of these bacteria. The storage of this equipment also causes mold. Often the pads are stored in a dark bag or locker room moist with sweat, blood and dirt causing a perfect recipe for infectious growth. Fill a tub with hot water and liquid soap. Put on protective gloves. Skipping this step puts you at risk for contracting dangerous bacteria that might be found on the football pads. Shake the knee pads over a drop cloth to get rid of loose dirt. Soak the knee pads in hot water for two to three minutes. While the knee pads are soaking, clean the drop cloth us
