How Do You Disinfect Foam Mattress Pads?
Foam mattress pads, as with any other type of bedding, require disinfecting on occasion. Whether the mattress pad become soiled with vomit, feces, urine or pet stains, it is important to disinfect and kill any bacteria that has formed on the mattress pad. Unlike linens and similar bedding items, a foam mattress pad cannot be washed in a washing machine for two reasons–first, because the foam is typically too bulky to fit into a washing machine, and second because the foam will quickly break apart during a wash cycle. Blot fresh stains with paper towels to remove the spill before it absorbs into the mattress. Moisten a handful of paper towels with warm water and a drop of laundry detergent, then rub gently over the stained area.
