How Do You Disinfect A Soiled Mattress?
As any parent of a young child–or a new pet–can attest, urine and other types of stains on a mattress can be frustrating to clean. Urine quickly soaks deep into a mattress and can create an awful smell. In addition, the urine can help foster the growth of mold or other bacteria. By acting quickly, you can minimize the negative effects of an accident. Blot up the area of the stain using an absorbent cloth, absorbing as much of the fluid as possible. Spray the soiled spot with a stain remover that is designed to combat biological stains and odor. Blot up the stained area after applying the stain remover. Pour white vinegar over the soiled area until the stain is fully saturated. Blot up as in previous steps. Pour baking soda over the stained area and leave it to sit overnight. The baking soda will help fight odor. Vacuum the baking soda up the next morning.
