Disassembling a laptop may be necessary for a number of reasons. You may need to replace a hard drive or optical drive or upgrade the graphics card. You may even be taking apart an old laptop just for the fun of it. In any case, the process can be somewhat difficult, and you may run into many snags along the way. HP is usually pretty straightforward with its labeling of parts, so you may have an easier time with an HP laptop than with others. Put on your antistatic wristband. This will prevent static electricity from damaging any components you touch. Turn the laptop upside down and locate the panels covering the RAM and hard drive. Remove the screws holding them in, making sure to keep them separated from other screws by placing them in a labeled cup. Locate and remove the rest of the screws holding the entire bottom panel on.
