How Do You Disassemble A Ruger 10/22?

If you own, or are considering purchasing, a Ruger 10/22, it is important that your learn how to disassemble, or field strip, your rifle. A 10/22 must be field stripped in order to clean it, and the process is fairly simple, requiring only a few steps. Unload your 10/22. Remove the magazine and retract the bolt and lock it into place. Retracting the bolt should eject a chambered round, but visually inspect the chamber to verify it is empty. Loosen the barrel band screw. The barrel band is located toward the front of the rifle, just before the front end of the stock. Once the screw is loosened remove the barrel. Locate the take-down screw and loosen, but don’t remove it. The take-down screw is located on the underside of the rifle, just in front of the trigger and magazine.
