In order to access the main working parts of a Maytag washer, you first need to know how to disassemble it. The Maytag washer cabinet does not have to be removed from the base to access the entire compartment. Unlike most washers that have the cabinet removed in one piece, the Maytag is disassembled by removing the front panel and raising the top, much like you would a car hood. Unplug the Maytag washer from the wall outlet. Turn off the water supply to the washer. Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws on top of the control panel. There is one screw at each end. When the screws are removed you have access to the inside of the control panel to test and replace control switches. Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws on the front panel that secure it to the sides. The screws are under the lip ridge of the front panel.
