How Do You Disable Start-Up Items On Windows XP?
Like all operating systems, many helpful services and programs start automatically during the Windows XP boot process. From sound utilities, to trackpad software and networking settings, these items make your computer perform as expected. However, other programs that launch during start-up, such as automatic updates or browser helper objects, can slow the start-up process, while offering minimal benefit. Preventing these items from starting automatically takes just minutes using a helpful Windows XP utility. Click the Windows Start button and select “Run.” Type “msconfig” (without quotation marks) and click “OK.” Select the “Startup” tab from the top of the System Configuration utility screen. Scroll down the list of start-up programs and services, unchecking the box next to the name of each program you no longer want launched automatically during Windows XP start-up.
