How Do You Diagnose Scheuermann Disease?
Scheuermann disease, a condition in which the spine curves inwards, is also called juvenile kyphosis. Juvenile kyphosis, a non-fatal condition, commonly affects males between the ages of 13 and 16. Observations of loved ones and a doctor’s expertise contribute to Scheuermann disease diagnosis. Be aware of worsening posture. Poor posture, an early indicator of juvenile kyphosis, can appear in children as young as age 10. Take your child to the doctor if poor posture continues as an issue. If the doctor suspects Scheuermann disease he will order X-rays and recommend a visit to an orthopedic surgeon. Have the X-rays taken and schedule an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon.
