Foot and ankle pain, and particularly heel and plantar (along the bottom of the arch of the foot) pain, can not only be debilitating, it can also be frustrating. One of the elusive causes of pain is the entrapment of nerves in the foot and ankle. This pressure phenomena causes pain and dysfunction and can be tough to pin down. Be aware of your symptoms as they begin. Do not ignore them if they continue or worsen. Try to be attentive to any factors that might have been associated with their onset–a seemingly minor injury, a change in level of physical activity, the addition of a new activity, a change in footwear.
