Explains the steps and prodedures that a do-it-yourselfer can fix it himself and save MONEY on professional repairs; namely, diagnosing and replacing a storage battery (out-of-vehicle) on a 2005 VW Beetle TDI • Place the gear selector in Park or First gear. • Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels. • Pull the hood lever in the cabin compartment. • Pull the outside hood cable toward you and raise hood. • Place a memory keeper device in the accessory socket in the cabin compartment (Figure B-1). Memory Keeper • Press the tab on the top battery cover and remove. • Press the tab on the fuse box and lift cover off (Figure B-2) Removing Fuse Cover • Using a 1/4-inch square drive 10mm socket and 1/4-inch square drive ratchet, remove POSITIVE cable to fuse box (Figure B-3) • Remove Fuse Box Cover • Using a 1/4-inch square drive 10mm socket and 1/4-inch square drive ratchet, remove the NEGATIVE cable of the battery post (Figure B-4).
