How Do You Determine The Correct Height Of Walking Canes?
A walking cane can be a dashing accompaniment to a formal outfit. However, canes also serve a more important, health-related purpose. Individuals who have a hard time supporting their entire weight when walking can find a cane to be a tool that makes walking less painful and safer. Having a cane of the proper height ensures that the owner can best use the cane to prevent falls or stumbles. Wear your most commonly worn pair of walking shoes to best replicate how you will be walking. Stand as upright as possible while maintaining a comfortable posture. Allow your arms to hang loose at your side with a relaxed, natural bend in your elbows. Measure the distance from the wrist of the hand that will hold the cane to the floor. This can be completed by an assistant or by feeding out the measuring tape a length longer than your wrist to the floor, then holding the tape in the hand you will not be measuring. Purchase a cane that has a handle low point equal to the height measured in Step 4.
