You want to buy a new wheel for your car, truck or trailer and you’ve called a local tire dealer to order one, only to hear, “What’s the bolt pattern?” Now what do you do? Bolt pattern? What’s that? Simply stated, it’s the distance between the studs that hold the wheel onto the vehicle. It is easy to determine the bolt pattern on a wheel. All you need is a tape measure. Count the mounting holes in your wheel. Wheels have between four and eight mounting holes (more on large trucks). Determine the bolt pattern of a four-hole wheel by measuring the distance between the centers of two opposing bolt holes. An example of a four-hole bolt pattern would be a four-on-four bolt pattern. This indicates four holes with an opposing measurement of four inches. Measure the distance from the center of one mounting hole to the back of the mounting hole two holes away from it to determine bolt pattern on a five-hole wheel.
