How Do You Determine Angles For Crown Molding Corners?
Crown molding is one of the most difficult moldings to install, but one of the most attractive when added to a room. Determining the angle of a corner to make a crown molding cut is never a straight-forward process, and even 90-degree corners are not always exactly 90 degrees. Crown molding cut even a couple of degrees off the actual angle of the corner can create a noticeable gap when the pieces are connected at the corner. While caulk is always available to hide minor errors in cutting, every effort should be made to minimize the size of gaps at corners. Place the trim carpenter’s protractor on the corner that needs measuring. Trim carpenter’s protractors measure the exact angle of the inside or outside of any corner. The protractor is usually made from flexible plastic and looks like two rulers joined at one end with an adjustable wing nut. Place one length of the protractor against one side of the wall and the other length of the protractor against the other connecting wall. Lock t
