How Do You Determine A Bolt Pattern?
Choosing the right wheels to mount on a vehicle depends on the number of bolts on the hub and their distance from each other. Holes in the wheel must fit over the hub bolts in the correct pattern. Otherwise, the hub bolts, or lug studs, will block the wheel from fitting on the vehicle. If you drew an imaginary circle connecting the center points of each hub bolt, the full width across the circle would be the diameter. Combine the number of bolts and the wheel’s existing lug stud diameter to determine the wheel bolt pattern. For example, a wheel with five lug studs and a diameter of 41/2 inches would be a 5 x 4 1/2 bolt pattern. Count the number of bolts on the wheel. Determine whether there is an odd or even number. Measure the width of one bolt and divide that number by two. Mark this as the center point on the bolt with a felt tip pen. Go to step four for an even number of bolts. Go to step five for an odd number. Measure and mark the center point on the bolt diagonally across from i
