Acquiring beautiful and timeless antiques is the quest of many an antique collector, as well as antique dealers. Unfortunately, many unscrupulous sellers try to extract premium prices for antiques that are less than flawless. Black lights are ultraviolet lights and have many uses; among these are the detection of fake and flawed antiques. Because of this interesting characteristic, things that are invisible to the naked eye become visible under the blacklight.” To authenticate glassware, inspect the piece of glass you are interested in with the black light. It can be used to authenticate glassware such as Deperession glass and Vaseline glass. Both of these will glow under the black light because they contain uranium oxide in the glass.
