There’s nothing like custom neon signs to get your customer’s attention! (I smile every time I drive by a bar in town with a neon sign that reads “Sorry, we’re open”) If you want to design your own sign and then have it custom made, you can do so very easily in Photoshop Elements 5. [You can also use this to transform a photo into a neon sign look-alike for a scrapbook page] Find a picture of what you would like your sign to illustrate. Here I have a copy of my flying puppy image. Load it into photoshop (you will be discarding this later). In a new layer, outline your image with a thick pencil in a bright color–the color you want your custom sign to be. This is not an exact outline, but a chunky, angular rough outline. Delete the background layer. Select the outline with the magic wand selection tool. Use the artistic neon filter on this selection. It doesn’t do much, but adds a little “glow” to your thick outline.
