A new picket fence around your home and garden is a great visual improvement. People often dream of having a nice picket fence to surround their suburban home, and with a few relatively easy steps, that dream can become a reality. But before you can begin building your fence, it is important to design the fence so that you know how much fencing you need and how you are going to go about building it. Measure the perimeter of the area you are looking to fence in to determine how much fencing you will need. Make sure you consider any small gates you will want to add leading into the front or back yard (depending on which side you are fencing). Write down all the measurements on a piece of paper. Sit down with a piece of paper, a pencil, and a ruler to sketch out a scale mock-up of your fencing area.
