Let it sit for several hours. Baking soda naturally neutralizes and absorbs odors rather than covering them up. • Be patient as the bad smell in the room makes its departure. The longer you let baking soda sit on the carpet, the better it will neutralize odors. Vacuum the baking soda out. After several hours, vacuum up the baking soda and your carpet will be odor and chemical free.
