I placed the name buttercream in quotes, becuase this recipe does not use butter at all. A traditional buttercream is made from a meringue base and has loads of butter in it and requires cooking. This recipe is a one bowl order, no cooking required. First you will want to place your vegetable shortening in a large bowl. Now like I said there is no butter required, however if you are unable to handle the amount of shortening you can cut the amount required down to 1/2 a cup and then add 1/2 of unsalted butter. Make sure your butter is pale in color as this could effect any dying that you do latter. Then you will want to sift your powdered sugar. You can find pre-sifted sugar, this will be noted by a box that says-10X or 20X. This means that it has been sifted 10 times. It is important to sift your sugar to get rid of any lumps, these will not go away in the mixing. Also, when I say 1 pound of sugar, I mean by weight. DO NOT depend on the individual company measurements. Now, combine all
