Slate is a common material for outdoor welcome signs and is sold at many craft stores nationwide. Slate is a natural material that is ideal for decorating because it is usually pretty even and flat. Slate is easily cut and drilled, which makes it perfect for making signs. Use slate to make your own welcome sign for your guests. Purchase supplies from your local craft store for your slate sign: air-drying polymer clay, oil paints, 1/8-inch thick cotton rope, paint brushes and super glue.
