How Do You Decorate A Multicultural Classroom?
Unlike most decorative classroom schemes, multicultural decoration is strongly tied to a philosophy of teaching and a way of viewing the world. For it to be effective and not just decoration on the wall, it must be tied directly to class activities. The literature your students read, the art and music they are exposed to and the events they learn about should reflect a wide range of different races, cultures and ethnicities. Then the decorations on the wall need only reflect what the class is doing. Put up multicultural posters. Show kids of different races, cultures and ethnic backgrounds playing together and doing school activities. Read multicultural books and put up posters for them.
