How Do You Decorate A Classroom For Kwanzaa?
Kwanzaa is the harvest celebration for African Americans and Africans worldwide. It is celebrated from December 26th to January 1st each year. This celebration reinforces African culture, family and community. There are many symbols that represent Kwanzaa you can use to decorate during the holiday season. Use the colors of Kwanzaa, black, red and green, for decorating bulletin boards and walls in the classroom. Have students use strips of black, red and green construction paper for making paper chains. Decorate with these by hanging them from the ceiling, around door frames or window frames. Decorate a table in the classroom that represents Kwanzaa. Use African printed cloth for a table runner. Include a selection of harvest crops, the Kwanzaa mat, the Kinara or candle holder, the unity cup and some traditional gifts given at Kwanzaa.
