How Do You Decipher Universal Care Labels?
They may seem like hieroglyphics, but those little symbols on the care label of your favorite shirt hold the secret to its care. With garment manufacture hitting the corners of the globe, many countries have decided to switch to a symbol system that transcends language barriers. Flip the label in some newer pieces of clothing and you’re likely to see variations on the five basic care symbols. A little tub with waves means washing, a circle stands for dry cleaning, a square corresponds to drying, a triangle refers to bleach and a stick figure iron is self explanatory. Note that the more horizontal lines under the wash tub, the gentler the wash cycle should be. The more solid little dots contained in the tub, the hotter the water should be. Let clothes drip dry if you see a square encasing three vertical lines, and let them dry flat if a square encases a single horizontal line.
