In short, much effort was exercised to avoid even subtle implications by staying closely to the Text. In Revelation, almost all of the questions use past tense verbs because John wrote about what he had already seen in his vision. Although, most of the events John saw had not been fulfilled before John saw these wonders, John still speaks in the past tense throughout most of the book.
