• When he/she starts shouting, say “You’re angry.” The fact that you are recognizing and affirming his/her feelings can calm him/her down and puts his/ her feelings and reactions in perspective. • If he/she starts directing his/her anger at you (making personal, verbal attacks for no reason) look him/her in the eye say firmly: “I will not put up with this”. • If he/she carries on, leave the house for at least half an hour. This cool out time gives him/her time to think and helps stop the situation escalating. Alternately, their getting mad is their choice. Just because they got mad does not mean that you need to answer it with your temper, or inconvenience yourself by leaving. Give the person some space, finish the task you were doing (maybe that was helping to make them mad), and move on to your next activity. Don’t tiptoe around them, but don’t let them choose your next action. Don’t stop getting the things done that you need to do, and when they calm down you may be able to discuss
