How Do You Deal With A Toddler That Keeps Waking Up During The Night?

As the mother of a two-and-a-half year old myself, I have recently read everything I can get my hands on regarding sleep disturbances…and apparently they are quite common among toddlers, even those who were great sleepers since infancy (like mine!). In our case, my boy had a mild cold in late Dec. that resulted in nighttime nasal stuffiness that would wake him up every night. He would wake up crying and sniffling, and point to his nose. We tried everything (humidifier, etc.) and he eventually developed and was treated for a sinus infection, which fixed the problem…but, unfortunately, the nighttime wakings continued! Sometimes nightmares seemed to be the culprit, other times it seemed to be night terrors, and still other times it seemed to be gas pains in his belly. Basically, anything would easily wake him, causing him to cry/scream/etc. in frustration, especially if he doesn’t feel well.
