Very Patiently (PWPSPly) and keeping a wary eye on their movements. For some reason, people with PSP seem not to be able to remember the risks involved in things they used to do normally. When it is pointed out to them they seem to understand, but within a few minutes go right back to it again. For one year my husband was intractable. My choices were to use a restraint or watch him. I chose to watch him but when I took a bath etc. I had to restrain him or let him injure or kill himself. No one could persuade or bribe him to obey. I believe he didn’t understand any longer or forgot because his normal nature was easy going and sweet. Now, no matter what he promised, he would disregard it at once. Constant reminders are essential and ultimately, one begins to think “what will be will be”. Being constantly watched and/or restrained are demeaning to everyone… the choices are very personal and different for each individual situation. See FAQ-13 on making a home safer.
