Dealing with a difficult parent can be, to say the least, more difficult than raising teenagers at times. We expect them to act in a certain way or respond to being told what to do. But that does not work or a 2 year old or a 70 year old. But with understanding and some patience it is possible to help them to keep their dignity as they age. Make a plan before a crisis happens. The best way to deal with difficult parents is to avoid as many problems as possible by planning how you will handle them before they arise. Ask all family members to meet in person or on a conference call to discuss what you will do when your parents or parent needs help.
