How Do You Cycle A Saltwater Aquarium With Dead Shrimp?
There are several methods that can be used to cycle a saltwater aquarium. One way, is the use of dead shrimp. It is good to use shrimp, instead of other fish, because shrimp do not fall apart very easily and they are readily available. Using dead shrimp is a great way to cycle a tank because, when the cycling is complete, the shrimp can easily be removed and replaced with live fish. SETUP THE TANK: Add any gravel, rocks, decoration, etc. Fill it with water. Turn on the filter(s). If you are using a protein skimmer, do not turn it on until the ammonia has peeked as it will slow down the cycling process. Make sure there is plenty if water circulation. INSERT DEAD SHRIMP: Put shrimp in a mesh bag and tie it closed. Submerge the mesh bag in the tank. It can be dangled near the surface of the water or attached to a rock at the bottom of the tank. Make sure it is not floating around the aquarium where it could get sucked into a filter or pump. Use one inch of shrimp for every 30 gallons. Raw
