How Do You Cut Pex Tubing?

PEX tubing is a versatile plumbing tool that is easy to install and work with. Fittings for secondary runs and joints are installed in the pipe after the pipe is cut. The best way to cut the pipe is with a sharp blade so the pipe is cut straight and clean. A jagged or angled cut will not do because the fitting needs to be inside the pipe as far as possible to create a water tight seal between the fitting and the crimp ring. Open a pair of ratcheting PVC cutters so the cutting blade is as open as possible. Place the PEX pipe in the rounded recess under the cutting blade that is attached to one of the cutter handles. Squeeze on the cutter handles to activate the ratcheting action of the PVC cutter. Hold the PEX pipe so the cutting blade will cut a straight slice through the pipe. The ratcheting action will move the cutting blade smoothly through the PEX pipe.
