How Do You Cut Laminate Kitchen Counters?
Trimming off the end of a laminated kitchen counter top isn’t as simple as just taking a circular saw to it. If that cut isn’t razor-straight, its imperfections will be very noticeable, especially if you try to cap it with new laminate, because the top laminate won’t line up exactly with the new edge laminate. Also, the nature of laminate itself is a problem; it tends to chip and split under the saw blade. Using a homemade saw guide will keep the cut straight, and sealing the surface in masking tape before cutting it will minimize surface chips. With your tape measure, level and pencil, mark a line where you want to cut off the counter top. Lay a piece of masking tape over the whole length of the line, so it’s covered completely. (You should still be able to see the line through the tape; if not, then re-draw the line over it.) Clamp your 1 by 4 board onto the counter top, parallel to the line, with the edge of the board as far from the line as the width of the guard on your saw. Arran
