Laminate (sometimes referred to as “Formica”) countertops are a popular choice for the kitchen or bathroom. Laminate countertops are durable and inexpensive when compared to other types of countertop materials. Laminate countertops are made by bonding a plastic laminate veneer to a framework made of plywood or particle board. Ready-made laminate countertops with built-in backsplashes are available at home improvement stores, in popular sizes from 3 feet to 10 feet long. Measure the length needed for the countertop, and purchase one slightly longer than what you need. Set up two sawhorses and lay old towels across them so that the laminate surface will not be scratched. Lay the countertop across the sawhorses with the laminate side down.
