How Do You Cut & Install Crown Molding?
Crown molding adds a certain sense of elegance to any room, but it also serves a utilitarian purpose by covering up any gap that may exist between the ceiling and wall. While cutting and installing crown molding is not an easy undertaking, even for those already experienced, it should not be looked up as overwhelming, unless you don’t have access to certain essential machinery. Prime the molding before cutting and installing to reduce the potential for warping. Apply an even coat of primer, or even varnish, on the front and back of the molding. Measure the areas of the room to which the crown molding will be applied and mark the location of the stud with a pencil. If you encounter difficulty locating the studs, use a stud finder. Draw a line with the pencil across the wall to determine the edge of the bottom of the molding.
