How Do You Cut Inside Corner Molding?
Corner molding is generally cut on a miter saw, to make two 45-degree angles in the end of each piece coming off the corner. When put together, the two cuts form 90 degrees, which is a standard corner angle. “Inside” corner refers to the regular corners of a room, while an “outside” corner juts out. If you can stand in a corner, it’s an inside corner; if you can bang your elbow on a corner as you walk by it, it’s an outside corner. Inside corners are most common when installing molding. Measure from the corner outward along one wall, using a tape measure. Pick a piece of trim longer than the measurement. Stand the trim on your miter saw, in the position it will be when it’s installed on the wall. Put the end of the board that will be in the corner under the blade, with about an inch of extra space beyond the blade. Swivel the blade so that it points toward the long side of the trim.
