Formica has long been a favorite material for use in counter tops and backsplashes. It is available in a wide range of colors and patterns, is relatively easy to install, cleans up easily and is very durable. Installing a new Formica counter top will require that you cut the sheets down to fit your counters. Follow some best practices for cutting Formica to get the smoothest edge. Measure and mark the cut line on the back side of the Formica sheet (not the side that will be your counter top). Remember to measure for a cut that will leave the Formica larger than the planned finished size so that it can be trimmed and finished. Place a strip of masking tape along the entire cut line, and then measure and re-draw your cut line on top of the masking tape.
