How Do You Cut Finish Trim Molding?
Finishing and cutting trim can be a tedious process. It looks great when it is done right. When it is not, it shows. There are tips and tricks that can be used to help smooth the process, reduce waste and result in a better-looking finished project. Measure how long the trim needs to be, then mark it on the face of the trim with a pencil. Measure twice to help prevent errors. Set the miter saw to the desired angle and lock it in place. Place the marked trim on the saw with the desired length to the left and the section being cut to the right of the blade. Cutting the trim face up helps prevent splintering of the wood and makes for an aesthetically pleasing cut. Do not start the saw blade yet. Lower the stationary blade until it touches the trim. Line up the left side of the blade with the pencil mark. Do not center the blade on the pencil mark; this will result in the trim being cut too short.
