How Do You Cut Back A Mexican Fan Palm?
Mexican fan palms are drought-resistant palm trees that do well in Southwestern regions and are known for their fan-shaped tops extending from the stem. These palms enjoy hot, arid weather and struggle in cooler temperatures. To help your Mexican fan palm thrive, plant it in an area with full sun exposure and rich soil. The leaves on a palm are referred to as fronds and need to be regularly pruned to help your tree maintain a healthy, green appearance. Examine your palm tree. Look for any brown or yellow fronds. These are unhealthy branches taking nutrients from the rest of the palm tree. Put your gloves on. Palm fronds have hooked thorns. Clip the brown and yellow fronds near the bottom of the trunk. Clip the frond, angling the stem so it angles up the trunk. Do not clip green fronds. Dispose of the fronds in a place where the thorns can not harm anyone or damage anything.
