How Do You Cut A Saddle Joint?
A saddle joint mimics the way joints work in the human body. One side of the joint fits around the other side to give a range of motion. Choose your wood, and cut it to your specifications. Make sure the width of your wood isn’t wider than your drill bit. A width of 1 inch is ideal for making a wood saddle joint. Set your bull nose bit in the table router, and set your fence behind and to the side of your wood. Round the edge of the wood by sliding it against the bull nose bit until the edge of the wood is a full half circle. Line up your compass with the center of the half circle and set a pencil in the outside. Use the compass to draw the other edge of the circle on the rest of the wood.
