Ancient customs would normally use animal fat or beeswax to cure the wood for several weeks. It still takes a while, but other methods are available. Rub any of the listed oils into the surface of the wood thoroughly. This type of curing is the easiest and is the most common method used by artisans, who have their own special oils they use. Each coat needs to sit for several days between coats. The wood will be cured in two to five weeks, depending on how many coats of oil are applied.
