How Do You Cure Live Rock In An Aquarium?

0

Live rock can make a beautiful addition to any marine aquarium. Curing is necessary to prevent any unwanted results in your aquarium, such as decreasing the health of your marine animals, corals or plants. This is true even if the live rock you buy has already been cured. Curing live rock takes anywhere from one to three weeks to do before you can introduce it into your established marine aquarium. The process is relatively simple, but requires daily checks and maintenance. Put the live rock inside a 30-gallon plastic garbage can. If you wish, you can add bottom drains to the can to speed draining during water changes. Cover the rock with mixed saltwater, specific gravity of 1.021-1.025. Be sure that the rock is covered completely or the curing will not work. Use the heater to ensure a water temperature of around 80 degrees Fahrenheit to speed the die off. Change all of the water at least twice weekly. Scrub all of the live rock with a nylon bristle brush or toothbrush during the water
