How Do You Cure A Cold And Flu?

This is actually a very old remedy for the common cold and is as effective now and it was then. In any case this recipe will make your throat feel better. This is also known as a molasses posset. This recipe is over 200 years old and was adapted for today’s cooks. Rum was used in the original recipe. I am not sure if drinking alcohol is a good idea if you have a cold. It may make you feel better, but it can dehydrate you. In a large sauce pan, pour one pint of molasses, one teaspoon of ginger, and one stick of butter (do not substitute margarine). Let mixture warm and simmer for 30 minutes. Stir frequently. Do not allow mixture to come to a boil. Remove from heat and add the juice of two lemons. Stir. Optional – you can add the zest of the lemons also if you like. Store in a sealed container. Label the container “Stewed Quaker – Cold Remedy” To use the Stewed Quaker, add 1-2 teaspoons to a cup of hot tea. Sip slowly. Store any unused Stewed Quaker in the refrigerator.
