How Do You Create Liberty Hair Spikes?
Although named after the spikes on the Statue of Liberty’s crown, the liberty spike hairstyle first became popular in England during the fledging days of punk rock in the 1970s. The hairstyle requires a lot of effort and a lot of glue or styling gel to keep it looking good and sticking straight up in the air. Start with clean, conditioned hair. Dye or spray it with a coloring agent first if you desire, then decide how high you want the spikes to be. Most punk rockers and ravers like spikes three or four inches high. Divide your hair into the preferred number of spikes. Most people have five or six spikes. Pull up the sections one at a time and apply glue, gelatin, egg whites or a special firm hold styling gel, starting at the base of the section. Follow the procedure in Step 2 for each section.
