With the passage of the Sarbanes Oxley Act, public companies are now required to document their processes. Process maps are used for this purpose. A process map is a type of flow chart. A process flow chart can be used to build a step by step picture of the process to include specific duties. Also if the process flow chart becomes too complex you can create process flow charts for steps within the process. In this way you can be as detailed as you need to be to capture all the specific duties that must be accomplished. Identify the processes to be flowcharted and to give the flowcharts a title. There will likely be several processes to flowchart. Begin to draw each flowchart by first describing the event which initiates the process, known as the ‘trigger’ event.
