So, you’re shooting a scene of the cute couple’s awkward make out session in front of the TV. You turn the prop TV on, but it’s providing the wrong color temperature of light, or it’s just too dim, or, worse yet, it’s not even hooked up or plugged in! How do you create that classic blue “flickering” light on your subjects in a way you can control, quickly and easily? Here’s the classic right way to do it: build a “flicker stick.” But, at the very end of the article, we’ll also talk about the fast (emergency) way to get it done. Take your card stock or board. Starting at the top of one of the 11 inch sides, cut horizontally across the page 6 to 7 inches. Make a series of these cuts all the way down the page. The cuts should be half an inch to an inch apart. When you are finished, the page should look like fringe.
