Creating artwork with children can be a most enjoyable and rewarding activity. And one does not have to be “trained” in art to teach a child the pleasures of creating beautiful and lasting works of art. Ordinary items found in your home can provide hours of creative enjoyment. Try this one using a variety of dried beans, peas, corn, lentils, etc. Keep it simple. Young children, particularly, can lose interest in a project if it proves too challenging or stressful. Give them a simple design or idea, a variety of materials and just let them use their imagination to provide the embellishment. Set up an area where your child can be messy. You do not want him to have to worry about being neat when the creative juices are flowing! Spread an old sheet or drop cloth on the floor or table.
