It is easy to get so wrapped up in planning and packing for your winter vacation that you forget to prepare your home for the trip. Burglars look for changes in your routine or for houses that are suddenly unoccupied. It doesn’t take much to secure your home and it will give you the peace of mind to enjoy your well-deserved vacation. Have your mail held at the post office, or have a trusted neighbor or friend empty your mailbox everyday. If you are having your mail held, start this a day or two before you leave in case the post office has made a mistake. Put your indoor and outdoor lights on a timer. Set this up a few days before you leave so you can ensure they are set properly. Disconnect non-essential electrical appliances and turn down your thermostat while you are gone.
